Objective: To characterize Ecuadorian scientific journals documented in the first volume of the 2024 catalogue of the Ecuadorian Network of Editors and Scientific Journals (RERCIE), focusing on scope, fields, periodicity, open access, and indexing. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional documentary study reviewed the 82 catalogue records. Fields and reported editorial attributes were coded. Results: The corpus comprised 82 journals across six fields, led by Social Sciences (n=30; 36.6%) and Multidisciplinary journals (n=20; 24.4%). An institutional RERCIE communication identified all 82 journals as open access. The catalogue provided field, contact, review type, and article types, but it did not provide consolidated periodicity or indexing fields for all records. Therefore, unavailable data were treated as a source limitation rather than evidence of absence. Conclusion: The catalogue is useful for identifying thematic diversity and open-access orientation, but a comparable national diagnosis requires an interoperable matrix with dated and source-verified periodicity and indexing data.
